Bromley Homeseekers

Welcome to Bromley Homeseekers

This week we will be trying to secure moves for the remaining Ramsden Estate decant. Lots of the adverts this week will indicate that we may give priority to these applicants.

Please note that there are now almost 6000 people on the register and we are getting more than 120 applications a week. We are sometimes only able to advertise 15-25 properties each week. This means that the vast majority of applicants will not be successful with a bid for many years, many may not ever be re-housed through the Housing Register. Even High Priority applicants will have a substantial delay before they are successful. It is absolutely essential that all applicants explore other options as well as the Housing Register. This may include renting privately, mutual exchange, or low cost home ownership. Use the Contact Us button at the top of the page if you want more advice.

Please ensure you read the following guidance on adverts

Please note that in adverts we will state in the notes for each property if any particular group will be given priority. This may mean that even though your bid is placed highly, your bid may be bypassed if you are not in the group we are giving priority to on that particular property. Please ensure that you read all of the advert carefully before placing a bid.

If you are struggling to get a property through Bromley Homeseekers and would be interested in exploring the possibility of renting a property in the private rented sector, then please ring us on 020 8461 7686. You may be able to get a property much quicker, and may have more choice on area etc than you do on Bromley Homeseekers. This is only open to applicants in Band A and Band B.

What is Bromley Homeseekers?

Instead of people being 'offered' accommodation, Bromley Homeseekers advertises properties on a website each week. It has been used successfully by many other local authorities and is designed to give more choice to people who are in housing need. If you want to be considered for any of the homes, you will need to register with Bromley Homeseekers by completing our self assessment and online registration form.  Once you are registered and if you meet the criteria, then you can apply for housing. We call this making a 'bid'. You can 'bid' for the property you choose either online, by text or by phone. Each property will then be allocated to the person or family with the highest need. Once the property has been let, Bromley Homeseekers will publicise how long the successful applicant had been waiting and what banding they had. This is to help you make realistic decisions about the homes you apply for and the options you pursue.

How do I use Bromley Homeseekers?

If you aren’t registered with us you will be able to view the properties that are available as well as look at the results of previous allocations. You’ll also be able to look at the housing options we provide. If you aren’t registered but would like to use Bromley Homeseekers and think that you have a housing need you will need to complete the online Self Assessment. This will give you a predicted banding and will indicate how likely you are to be successful through Bromley Homeseekers. If you still wish to register you would need to complete a full online application. After completing the Self Assessment, click 'register now' and complete and submit the form to us.  We will then assess your application.  If you are accepted onto the register we will write to you, giving details of your banding, and will include a Homeseekers Pack telling you how to use the system.

What if I have an emergency housing need?

We will still give you advice if you are homeless, threatened with homelessness or suffering from domestic violence or harassment. You should contact the Housing Options and Assessments Team on 020 8313 4098. In cases of domestic violence you can also contact the Community Safety Unit on 020 8284 8760 or for more information please see Bromley Council's domestic violence help pages. If you are an existing housing association tenant who has an emergency you should contact your housing officer for advice.
