About Us

In 1992, Bromley transferred all its council housing to Broomleigh Housing Association, the largest Housing Association in Bromley. However, the Council works closely with Housing Associations and other agencies to increase the quantity and quality of social housing in the borough and to ensure good housing standards in both the social and private sectors. From May 2008 Bromley Council will be introducing ‘Bromley Homeseekers’, a Choice-Based Lettings scheme in partnership with Housing Associations operating within the borough. The aim of the Bromley Homeseekers scheme is to increase choice in lettings while at the same time continuing to meet housing need. This is essential to ensure sustainable tenancies and build settled communities as tenants are more likely to meet their tenancy obligations, maintain the property in a good condition and stay for longer in a property they choose themselves. In drawing up the scheme there has been consultation with all Housing Associations with which we have nomination agreements. Bromley Homeseekers is operated by Home Connections on behalf of London Borough of Bromley and its partners. Bromley Homeseekers is intended to create a single housing register and to be the main route into social housing in the London Borough of Bromley. Offering choice to applicants does not mean that there will be any more properties available. Demand for housing exceeds supply, and the register exists to enable all households who are in need of rehousing to be included on one list and to maximize the opportunities for rehousing. The scheme seeks to offer choice and transparency whilst giving reasonable preference to those in priority need. By joining Bromley Homeseekers those in housing need can be considered for properties owned or managed by any of the partners. We are committed to giving more choice to applicants, and from Summer 2008, with some exceptions all Housing Association properties to which the council has nomination rights and most of the Housing Associations own stock will be advertised to eligible applicants who will bid for the properties that they are interested in.
